Two Mellors Magic Christmas Cards have been found! The winners so far are Elaine Lee (Area Support Manager) and Jacqueline Hancocks (Catering Manager). There are more magic cards still out there. Have you checked yours for the magic phrase?.. “Silent Night Holy Night All is quiet!!” On Sunday, 10 members of the Mellors team took on the 2021 Great Manchester Run in aid of the wonderful charity, Zoe’s Place. A massive well done to Mark Lyons, Jenny Lenton, Jo Timmerman, Jo’s husband Matt, Laura Whiting, Danielle Watkins, Ethan Anderson, Laura Norfolk, Mark Timmerman and Mark’s wife Jana for your fundraising efforts and for your achievements on the day! Operations Manager, Mark Lyons conquered the Manchester Half Marathon, while the others took on the 10k race. Everyone involved had a fantastic day, cheered on by their supporters, and some even managed personal bests. The team have spent the last few months training hard for the day, alongside fantastic fundraising efforts which saw them raise a whopping £3,235 for our nominated charity Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice. You can still donate to this extremely worthwhile cause by clicking here. Every penny really does help. Congratulations again to everyone who took part and if you fancy joining them next year let us know. Also, if you have any other ideas for fundraising for this brilliant charity we’d love to hear from you. Why not email markl@mellors.co.uk with you idea? Special mention to Development Chef Mike Stroud, who trained for the 10k and did a great job of fundraising but unfortunately couldn’t join the rest of the team on to day due to unforeseen circumstances. Mike was missed and will hopefully join the team next year. Our fantastic Catering Team at Stoke 6th Form Centre, this week welcomed Labour Leader Keir Starmer and his team. Alongside a documentary crew, Keir and his team, who were filming at the college, were treated to a delicious Mellors buffet created by our catering team, led by Catering Manager Andrew Griffiths. Andrew Walker, Sasha Walters and Becky Walker from the Mellors Ops team also helped to make this event such a success. Well done everyone! It’s been a busy and exciting time at Mellors recently, preparing to reopen our education catering units for the new school year, alongside opening more than 90 new units! Well done to everyone who has made this possible. A special well done has to go to the wonderful team who run our New Catering Manager Training Sessions, headed-up by Mellors Health and Safety Manager Sally Worthington and Head of Food Development Danielle Watkins. Following fantastic feedback last year, for the second year running these training sessions have been conducted over Zoom. Training our new Catering Managers on everything they need to know as they join the Mellors family. While some new staff join these sessions slightly nervous, everyone always comes away feeling informed, energised and welcomed into team Mellors, and we couldn’t be more excited to see what they achieve. One new Mellors Catering Manager, Charlotte said, “This morning’s session was very informative and was very helpful to get a brief understanding of how things are run. Sally and Danielle were lovely and very friendly and helped me to feel at ease about coming to work for Mellors. A new company is very daunting but…if I’m honest I feel included and supported already. I’m nervous but actually feel excited to be joining the team.” This year, our online New Manager Training Sessions have trained a total of 93 people! A massive well done to everyone involved, you really have done an incredible job. A very warm welcome to all of the new teams who have joined Mellors. We’re so pleased you’re now part of the Mellors team. Here’s to a fantastic 2021-22, and beyond! We’re proud to announce that Mellors are this season’s sponsor of Kirkburton Junior FC. Good luck to everyone on the team! We’re sure you’ll do brilliantly. On 8th July we held the final of the 2021 Golden Whisk Competition at The Cheshire Cookery School in Altrincham and what an event it was! Our four talented finalists – Stephen Barnett, Dan O’Callaghan, Brenda Slack and Zaynab Mahmood – were asked to bake their entries in the live final for the consideration of our judges. It was our very own Great British Bake Off. The finalists produced some amazing cakes that really did put a smile on everyone’s faces. As you can see from the photos, the quality of the creations was fantastic! But there can only be one winner… The winner of the 2021 Mellors Golden Whisk Competition is… Brenda SlackRavensworth Primary in Richmond, North Yorks. Well done to Brenda for creating a delicious rainbow cake. Not only did this cake taste fantastic but it also looked amazing! From the different flavoured layers and surprise centre to the lovely decoration, this cake stole the judges’ hearts. Brenda walked away with the coveted Golden Whisk Trophy, a luxury embroidered apron and a £250 voucher! Not only that but her bake will also be sent to her pandemic heroes – The staff of James Cook Hospital and the school staff at Ravensworth Primary. Congratulations again to Brenda and to our other finalists for a fantastic competition! Mellors first face-to-face presentation to a potential new Primary School client for more than a year! Behind the masks: Michael and Andy our Development Chefs, Operations Manager Andy and MD Mark. After a year of doing presentations via Zoom, its nice to be out again meeting new clients and pupils. We’re delighted to announce that Mellors have again been awarded the globally recognised ISO 9001 quality assurance accreditation. This year, we have also been accredited with the ISO 1400 environmental award. These accreditations recognise our focused application of quality management systems. Our audit also acknowledged Mellors’ excellent customer focus. It is the continued endeavour of all Mellors team members to put the customer at the heart of everything we do. Our teams’ attention to detail and pursuit of quality, always, is reflected in these accreditations. Rest assured, Mellors have not let the pandemic stop us in our plans to deliver on our promise of being a quality ensured company, dedicated to our environmental and sustainability credentials. Special thanks to Sally Worthington (Mellors Health & Safety Manager) and Janet Ellison (Mellors Operations Director) for their fantastic efforts on completing this year’s remote audit, in challenging circumstances. Our Catering Teams love to put on a Theme Day and Valentine’s Day is no exception. Here are some photos of the wonderful Valentine’s Day lunch and display at Hinde House Secondary School in Sheffield. Well done everyone, it looks great!
