At Mellors, our passionate and talented catering teams is the heart of everything we do, fuelling minds and nourishing futures with their dedication and expertise. These awards recognise individuals and teams who consistently go above and beyond to deliver delicious, nutritious meals that delight our customers. Golden Whisk Winner – Mounia Lounes The prestigious Mellors Golden Whisk Award celebrates culinary excellence across our 1,800 catering team. In 2024, Mounia Lounes was crowned overall winner during our live cook-off competition with her Algerian-inspired menu, themed “From Past to Plate.” Mounia’s winning dishes included bourak—a traditional Arab pastry filled with spiced meat—accompanied by authentic couscous and an array of sweet and spicy Algerian sauces. For dessert, she presented a Sweet Orange Moskotcho, a light apricot sponge cake, showcasing recipes passed down through generations. Mounia’s culinary talents reached international acclaim for this achievment across UK and Algerian news outlets. Her dishes are now featured at Laisterdyke Leadership Academy in Bradford, where students enjoy to eat these flavoursome meals. Congratulations, Mounia, on this incredible achievement! Small Unit of the Year – Chapel Street Primary Louisa and her team at Chapel Street Primary were honoured with the Small Unit of the Year Award at Mellors annual Autumn Party. Known for their dedication, creativity, and exceptional food service, Louisa and her team cater to a diverse range of cultural and religious diets, making mealtime a highlight of the day for students. This award reflects Chapel Street Primary commitment to excellence and their ability to successfully run a vibrant and happy dining environment for both children and staff. Well done, Louisa and team! Large Unit of the Year – Thornaby Academy Liz and the team at Thornaby Academy earned the Large Unit of the Year Award for their exceptional performance. Through Liz’s strong leadership and effective cost management, the unit not only exceeded sales targets. Liz’s dedication and unwavering focus on delivering high-quality, nutritious meals have set a gold standard for Mellors. Congratulations, Liz and team, on this well-deserved recognition! Bill Kelly Award – Clare Quick, Shirebrook Academy Clare Quick of Shirebrook Academy was awarded the prestigious Bill Kelly Award for her creativity, and outstanding contributions to catering and the students at Shirebrook Academy. Clare’s innovative food offerings and high-quality standards, along with her insightful posts on the Mellors “Grapevine” internal communications platform, have earned her admiration across the company. Her ability to deliver exceptional dining experiences while managing costs showcases her remarkable talent and dedication. Congratulations, Clare, on this fantastic achievement!
