Pupils can explore exciting cuisines and global cultures through food—turning lunchtimes into a tantalising foodie adventure… its going to be a “wheelie” tasty adventure! Taking School Catering to the Next Level The Tuk Truck was officially unveiled on Tuesday 13th May 2025 at Westfield Sports College in Sheffield. The event marked a major milestone for Mellors as the company celebrates 30 years in the contract catering industry. Mellors is known for delivering fresh ideas to school dining—and the Tuk Truck is no exception. Following the success of their iconic Big Red Bus, this new initiative is designed to inspire students to explore new tastes, develop a positive relationship with healthy food, and learn about cultures through cuisine. “The Tuk Truck is more than just a fun way to serve lunch—it’s an invitation for young people to try something new, discover flavours from around the world, and learn about different cultures in a delicious and engaging way,” said Danielle Watkins, Head of Nutrition and Food Development at Mellors. Taking Taste Buds on a World Adventure! Step up to the Tuk Truck and get ready to explore world cuisine—no passport required! From spicy tacos to soft bao buns, our globally inspired menu offers students a delicious journey through international street food culture. Whether you’re into big flavours, trendy dishes, or just something totally new, there’s a taste for everyone to discover. A Menu Full of Excitement Each visit brings a rotating selection of globally inspired dishes, developed by our experienced Food Development Chefs. Here’s just a taste of what students can look forward to: Pan-Asian chicken bowls Zesty, fresh Mexican tacos Soft, pillowy Bao Buns with pulled chicken Succulent Greek chicken gyros … and much more! Each dish is served with a side of culture—offering students a chance to learn about the origins, ingredients, and stories behind the food. We’re proud to be a local contract caterer, and the Tuk Truck is our way of celebrating community through shared meals, cultural learning, and unforgettable experiences. It’s a unique opportunity for students, teachers, and school staff to come together around the joy of food. A Year 9 student shared: “I’m usually quite a picky eater, but I gave the Pan-Asian chicken bowls a try—and I actually loved it! It’s made me feel more confident about trying new foods.” Another added: “I’d give the food a solid 9.5* out of 10! It was really tasty, and I’m already looking forward to the Tuk Truck coming back.” They continued: “I usually bring a packed lunch and had never tried Pan-Asian food before. This has definitely made me want to choose school meals more often.” One student also commented: “The Tuk Truck looks amazing—really bright, fun, and eye-catching!” A member of staff at Westfield shared: “It’s inclusive, engaging, and a brilliant way to broaden our students’ horizons. For many, it’s their first time experiencing these kinds of flavours and cuisines.” More Than a Meal At Mellors, food is more than just fuel—it’s a gateway to learning, discovery, and inclusion. The Tuk Truck is a travelling classroom on wheels, serving up culture and educational foodie experiences along with every meal.
