Staff members and customers of Mellors Catering Services have always been very generous with their time and money, raising money for a whole host of charities.

Giving back

10 YEARS

For more than 10 years, Mellors Catering Services has been deeply partnered with Zoe’s Place, fundraising over £40,000!

Zoe’s Place is a natural fit as we share some common interests. We feed more than 120,000 children every day, ensuring they have the best start to the day whilst at school, whilst Zoe’s Place provides a short break service, palliative and end-of-life care to babies and infants aged from birth to 5 years, living with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions. They have three hospices across the North of England including Liverpool, Coventry and Middlesbrough.

Mellors commitment shines through by our regular fundraising initiatives in support of Zoe’s Place Charity.

Mellors has recently partnered with Olio in a bid to help tackle our food waste and stamp out food poverty. We’re passionate about making a positive difference in feeding the future with nutritionally balanced meals and supporting the local communities we serve.

Reducing our carbon footprint

We are dedicated to environmental sustainability and have integrated eco-friendly practices into every facet of our operations. Recently we smashed our

carbon footprint target by over 25%

(ahead of schedule) through a range of initiatives, to achieve ISO14001 accreditation.

All company car vehicles are now either hybrid or electric. This choice of vehicle aligns with our environmental initiatives through ISO14001 accreditation and demonstrates our dedication to adopting eco-friendly solutions. Investing in hybrid and electric vehicles is a vital step towards achieving a greener future and minimising our environmental impact. As a company, we encourage car-sharing wherever possible to reduce CO2 emissions.

Plant-Powered kitchen

We love to create innovative and healthy food that meets the needs and preferences of our customers – delivering on both nutrition, flavour AND kinder to the environment.

Our innovative “Plant-Powered Kitchen by Mellors” aims to deliver plant-based food options to clients as part of a varied and balanced diet; educating students on the benefits of plant-based without compromising on flavours they love. The initiative helps educate students on some of the environmental benefits eating less meat can have to support sustainability.

Reducing food miles

We pride ourselves on using locally supplied ingredients, which means fresher produce for our consumers as well as reduced CO2 through less driving and also supporting local businesses.

Waste

All frying oil is collected as part of our service from the kitchen by our certificated collection service, the oil isrecycled for fuel or animal feed.

Packaging

100% of our grab & go packaging is compostable.

Recycling

Our water bottles are made from at least 50% recycled plastic.

GOLDEN WHISK – ‘WASTE NOT WHAT NOT’

According to statistics, in the UK 9.5 million tonnes of food is discarded each year, and we wanted to change that!

Mellors strive to reduce waste in our kitchens, without compromising on flavour or nutrition! We recently challenged our catering teams to champion this concept by creating recipes which utilise food destined for the bin, in the form of our Golden Whisk competition.

The annual cooking competition aims to celebrate and recognise our talented chefs and culinary genius across Mellors, crowning one lucky winner with the Golden Whisk Award.
